We were just checking out the annual report for the Nova Scotia Film Development Corporation and it's interesting to note that the big winner for 2005/2006 is Halifax Films aka Salter Street Films. They received $250,000 each for two kids shows "Bo on the Go" and "Poko".
Halifax Film completed an IPO a while back and raised $20,000,000 which apparently went to buy a bank. They also are set to recieve $1,000,000 in payroll rebates from the province although they keep hiring people from Toronto and getting them to move here. (Animators, COO's etc.)
So another 1/2 million to help "develop" the tv industry in Nova Scotia. To put it in context, Afterdark Films made a movie for 1/2 million dollars, though they never had cappachinos on set I'm sure. They had to beg, borrow and well maybe not steal but we don't know for sure to make their passion. (And no, we have nothing to do with Afterdark productions.

But at least we (taxpayers) now own a share of Poko which is doing fabulous overseas and Bo on the Go (although they can't seem to make the capture motion technology work yet) which I'm sure will be a hit. So we'll just wait for the bucks to come rolling in so we can provide more capital for......oh, right.
